Where we come from and why it matters.
Like any great Midwestern origin story, ours starts with local businesspeople. The ones who founded First State Community Bank were part of the tight-knit community in Farmington, a prosperous town nestled in the plains of Southeast Missouri.
During a time of economic struggle, a forward-thinking businessman, B.H. Jennings, saw a need for locally-owned banking services in the region. Gathering investors, he formed First State Bank, now known as First State Community Bank.
Since we opened our doors back in 1954, we’ve grown a lot, but we remain true to our roots. We believe in helping our local economy grow and thrive. We believe in giving back. And we believe that when it comes to banking, people should always come first.
Empowering our neighbors, nurturing local economies, and working together to meet the unique needs of our communities—we’re driven by a passion for helping the people and industries of Missouri thrive.
Community is not only in our name; it is in everything we do. Supporting the communities we serve is more than just a mission. It’s our passion to build long-term relationships and invest in the success of our neighbors.
We pride ourselves on our personal, friendly approach—and our commitment to the community makes us a more effective business partner. Our local expertise means we can create custom solutions to support your individual business needs. And because we’re your local partner, we're faster and more responsive than bigger banks.
The First State Community Bank board of directors reflects the values and experiences of our community. The members of our board all have roots in the region —and they’re committed to building on our history to create a bright future for the communities we serve.
Being an honest-to-goodness community bank means that we live in, work in, and serve our communities. Investing in the community goes beyond loans and banking services—giving back is built into our ethos. It is a part of our culture and tradition to support the community, which involves actively supporting the developmental goals and civic initiatives of the communities we serve.
